I'm In Love With A Monster: Fifth Harmony's Latest Music (My Review)

Hey everyone! I apologize for being away from my blog for a little while but I'd like to thank ya'll for the constant views every day and I've reached over 5800 views thus far! Now that I'm back, Fifth Harmony has been killin' it lately. From performances at Reflection: The Summer Tour and other live events, to releasing two singles and two music videos and once again capturing Awards, Fifth Harmony has made it known that their careers are just gettin' started! In this post, I wanna talk about I'm In Love With A Monster. While you read this post, PLEASE read the whole post before thinking I am criticizing too harsh or I'm hatin. I have reasons and they are explained throughout the post. Enjoy my review!

One of the newest thrilling and spooky track released by the girl group as the main theme for Hotel Transylvania 2, Fifth Harmony is well on their way of expanding to different kinds of listeners. Kids will be accompanied by their guardians to see the kid-friendly movie and with the song to be featured in the movie, viewers may likely buy the Hotel Transylvania 2 Song......? Is there a reason not to? Let me break down the song and what I think of all this production and commotion for the Hotel Transylvania 2 promotional track.

First off, the song is hell-of-a-lot better than half of the songs Fifth Harmony has released. Why you may ask? The song actually lets our beautiful-ears be blessed with ALL of the voices of the girls in Fifth Harmony. Finally, management and production finally make sure all of the girls are heard. But there's one obvious mistake in this single after you hear the whole song. Lauren has way too much solos in this song. Maybe it's to forgive that she didn't get solos in 5H's most successful single to date, but Dinah didn't get a solo in BO$$ nor Sledgehammer and she was only heard in Worth It for 30 seconds. Here's how I'm In Love With A Monster has been split up in terms of time to each of the girls, according to harmonizer fans on twitter:
Lauren: 1 minute and 25 seconds Camila: 21 seconds Ally: 15 seconds Dinah: 14 Seconds Normani: 10 Seconds
I understand all you Lauren fans adore Lauren and this is great that she got to shine, but Lauren getting a solo during the first verse AND the bridge is ridiculous. Lauren's voice is also overpowered in harmonies during the chorus. Please explain why Normani and Dinah had to share a verse. Lauren, Camila and Ally all got verses and it makes no sense why Normani and Dinah couldn't get solos as well. Just give the bridge Lauren sang to Dinah and leave the first part of the second verse to Normani please.

Now down to the voices, all of the girls vocals are spot on. Despite my complaint of how terrible they split up the song, Lauren's voice does suit the song a lot. Her voice is 'smoky' and raspy and fits the mysterious and haunting atmosphere. Camila's voice definitely goes along with the pop song. She definitely adds a little fun to the single when showcases her unique voice. Dinah! She has such an amazing voice and she could possibly challenge Beyoncé or Christina Aguilera in a vocal battle because her voice is 'up there' with those powerful vocalists. Dinah's voice suits the song and the way she says monster fits the song. Although Normani is only heard 10 seconds in the song and a little in harmonies, Normani uses the time she had effectively. The small verse shows off everything in Normani's voice. From belting notes to small little riffs and runs, Normani can still put on a show with such a small amount time. Ally brings on the sass in this single. Her voice is really powerful and all you have is her voice cutting through the track, bringing more energy to the song. Overall, vocals are on point!

For lyrics, I find it fun and entertaining. This is probably one of the only times Fifth Harmony will make a song that doesn't have some kind of deep emotional meaning behind it. This song just means that some girls like bad boys or some guys like bad girls. That's all there is to it. If you're looking for more inspirational songs, listen to more of Fifth Harmony's other songs.

The music video is honestly so good. Camila named this music video her favourite one yet to make, as they let loose and become fun 'characters'. They flirt with all kinds of monsters and show off some great group choreography. They all know how to act in a way that fits with the song and the scenes. Lauren is especially mysterious with her beautiful eyes looking into the camera ;) <3

Overall, I'd give this song a 4 out of 5. The vocals are spot on and the music video is great and very 'child-friendly', but the way they split up the song among 5 vocalists is very weird. But amazing song and make sure to buy the single on iTunes and check out the music video below! Thanks for checking out my review!
